After Leicester’s relegation, Maddison joins Spurs for £40m

James Maddison has joined Tottenham for £40m following Leicester’s relegation and has signed a five-year deal.

The 26-year-old spent five years with the Foxes, starring there as their main creative outlet and winning the FA Cup and Community Shield in 2021.

However, ten league goals and nine assists couldn’t stop the 2015/16 Premier League champions from breaking into the Championship in May, with Maddison reportedly catching Newcastle’s attention before Tottenham got his man.

Maddison worked through the team at Coventry before moving to Norwich.

After spending his first season on loan at Aberdeen at Carrow Road, his career really took off in 2017/18 when he scored 14 goals and provided eight assists for an underperforming Canaries side.

That form gave him a chance to prove himself with Leicester in the top flight.

It was a chance he took with both hands and established himself as one of the division’s best attacking midfielders.

Maddison is the first signing of the Ange Postecoglou era, alongside Guglielmo Vicario and Dejan Kulusevski.

Goalkeeper Vicario arrived from Serie A side Empoli, while Kulusevski had been on loan from Juventus for the last two seasons before committing to that deal earlier this month.
