BIRMINGHAM, Alabama – Texas A&M had 93 student-athletes on the SEC’s Spring 2023 Academic Honors List, which SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey announced Thursday.
The Spring 2023 SEC Academic Roll of Honor includes student athletes from eight different sports. The Aggies have listed a total of 90 or more student-athletes on the Spring Honors Roll for the fourth consecutive year.
“It is an honor for the Center for Student-Athlete Services to continue working with our student-athletes as they continue to strive for academic excellence,” said Dr. Dan Childs, Associate Athletics Director of Academic Services.
Men’s track and field recorded the most student athletes of any spring sport by Texas A&M with 28, while women’s track and field ranked second with 25.
The following criteria were taken into account:
(1) A student-athlete must have a GPA of 3.00 or greater in either the previous academic year (two semesters or three quarters) or a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or greater at the nominating institution.
(2) If a student-athlete attends a summer school, his/her grade point average during the academic summer semester must be included in the calculation used to determine eligibility for the academic honors roll.
(3) Student-athletes who qualify for the roll of honor include those who receive an athletics scholarship, recipients of an athletics award (e.g., letter winner), and student-athletes who do not receive a scholarship and two seasons been on a varsity team for a long time.
(4) Prior to nomination, a student-athlete must have successfully completed 24 semesters or 36 quarter hours of ineligible academic credit for a bachelor’s degree at the nominating institution.
(5) The student-athlete must have been on a varsity team throughout the NCAA championship segment of the sport.
