Rip Williams (pictured) bested polesitter Larry Bland to lead every lap of the California Racing Ace’s wingless sprint car at Indiana’s Paragon Speedway on May 15, 1992.
But while Williams set the pace throughout, Jack Hewitt delivered thrill after thrill to the crowd as the quarter-mile course progressed.
Hewitt started last (20th) and fought his way steadily through the field. On lap 27 he was second and quickly caught up with the leader. Hewitt passed Williams at turns one and two on the final lap, but Williams came back at full speed at turn three and beat Hewitt to the checkered flag.
Joe Roush and Randy Kinser also won features at the CRA stop of three races in Indiana.
