STILL WATER College wrestling’s most famous programs, Oklahoma State and Iowa, will take place on February 12th at 6:30 p.m. CT in a special neutral location at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas, as announced today.
The Bout at the Ballpark is the first of its kind. It is the first college wrestling dual to be played in a major league baseball stadium in Texas. In addition to the OSU-Iowa dual, the senior national teams from the USA and Iran will be competing in an exhibition at the same time. The fights of the two competitions alternate throughout the event. This is the first time a high-level international meeting and NCAA meeting have been held in this format.
Oklahoma State vs. Iowa is the most decorated rivalry in college sports. The 34 NCAA Cowboys Team Championships represent the NCAA record for most titles in a sport for each school and the Hawkeyes’ 24 draws for the third.
“The Oklahoma State-Iowa Series is one of the best things the sport of wrestling has to offer,” said OSU head coach and six-time freestyle world champion John Smith. “The history of both programs speaks for itself and is always accompanied by the intensity on the mat. I’m excited to show this rivalry to a new part of the country and help grow our sport. A world class facility like Globe Life Field is a great opportunity for our program and our fans. We can’t wait to go to Arlington come and look forward to wrestling in a great, unique atmosphere. “
Globe Life Field is the sparkling new home of Major League Baseball’s Texas Rangers. It opened in 2020 and hosted the National League Championship Series and the World Series that same year.
“OSU Cowboy Wrestling is the most successful program in college sports,” said OSU Athletic Director Chad Weiberg. “We are excited to bring our program to the Globe Life Field and the DFW Metroplex. The sport of wrestling in the state of Texas is growing and this is a great opportunity for us to showcase our passionate fan base and historic brand at this one-of-a-kind event. “
Tickets can be purchased from Thursday, October 14th at texasrangers.com/wrestling. The event will be streamed live from FloSports.
