Once again, SIGA, the world’s largest anti-corruption sports alliance, is making the headlines.
As their media partners, we are proud to announce that the Sport Transparency Index today opened registration for all sports stakeholders.
Led by SIGA and its European subsidiary SIGA EUROPE, the project will work to protect the sports industry by evaluating, comparing and contrasting sports stakeholders, including clubs, leagues, national federations and international governing bodies, against universally applicable and appropriate integrity-related transparency indicators.
Sports stakeholders are encouraged to visit the official website to express their interest in participating, to get involved or to keep up to date with the results of this groundbreaking initiative.
The 30-month project, co-funded by the European Commission under the Erasmus+ programme, will use a robust set of universal transparency indicators to rank European sport. It will:
- Define and articulate a set of common integrity indicators applicable to all European sport actors.
- Use the indicators to create a transparency index that objectively assesses the level of transparency of European sports actors in relation to the indicators provided.
- Use a universal and external evaluation process that enables objective evaluations.
- Only base assessments on information available on stakeholders’ official websites.
- Design the index to improve standards by highlighting current capacities and level of integrity transparency.
- Foster positive change through education, policy recommendations and knowledge-sharing mechanisms.
dr Ahead of the launch, Iain Lindsay, Senior Director of Research, Knowledge and Innovation at SIGA stated:
“We are excited to begin the stakeholder engagement phase of the Sport Transparency Index. The original goals of this index are twofold. First, we want to promote transparency in sport and help map the level of good governance in European sport in relation to key universal integrity indicators. Secondly, we want to give sports organizations the opportunity to develop positively by providing mechanisms for improved knowledge sharing. In this way, this project will help create a culture of positive development that will permeate the entire sports industry from the ground up. We work to minimize any barriers to inclusion and make the project accessible and inclusive for all. So I encourage all stakeholders in sport to register, get involved and help us pave the way for more transparency in sport.”
