Buddy Arrington, a popular NASCAR Cup Series driver in the 1970s, has died. He was 84 years old.
Arrington competed in the 560 Cup Series during his 25-year racing career in NASCAR’s top division. A native of Martinsville, Virginia, he has never won a Cup Series race, but has had 15 top-five finishes, including two third-place finishes.
Arrington primarily drove his own red and blue No. 67 Dodge and was a Chrysler loyalist throughout his career, but drove Fords and Chevrolets after Chrysler left the sport late in his career.
Arrington raced a limited schedule for most of his career, driving every race on the Cup Series schedule between 1978 and the end of the 1983 season. In 1982 he finished seventh overall.
Arrington’s son, Joey, served as his crew chief for many years and was also a successful engine builder.
