COEUR d’ALENE, Idaho – The hot temperatures and smoky skies didn’t keep celebrities and fans away from the Coeur d’Alene Resort Golf Course on Saturday morning.
The annual showcase event is back in full swing this weekend after having been on pause for a year due to COVID.
“I know the turnout we will have this year will be great. People want to do things, people want to get out, ”said Mark Mulder, former professional baseball player who played in The Showcase. “I love to see the kids outside. More than anything I love to see people smiling faces. Unfortunately they were covered up a bit, so it’s nice to see everyone out here. “
Mulder was one of more than 40 other players who showed up on Saturday morning.
It was a sight that many came to, including Andy Crateau and his family. He was excited to see some local basketball legends play golf.
“I love to see some of the Gonzaga players, the people from our hometown,” he said.
Fortunately for him, Adam Morrison was there.
“We are honored to live in such a fantastic area that has a course like this and can open up these opportunities,” said Crateau.
Superbowl MVP Marcus Allen enjoys the opportunity to play in the showcase, no matter how hot or hazy it was. There was an excessive heat warning throughout the event.
“It’s a blessing to be out here today. What a beautiful place, for all the smoke, it doesn’t take all the beauty of this illustrious community and so in Coeur d’Alene – the golf course, the people coming to a fundraiser to raise money for cancer, “he said .
As of 2014, The Showcase has raised $ 17 million for the Community Cancer Fund. The money goes to people fighting cancer in the northwest of the country. A spokesman for The Showcase says they believe it will hit $ 20 million after this weekend.
