Leeds United 1: 2 West Ham United: Marcelo Bielsa’s side continue without a win

Mikhail Antonio’s winner was his first goal against Leeds

Mikhail Antonio’s 90th-minute winner left Leeds still looking for a first Premier League win of the season when they were beaten by West Ham on Elland Road.

In a game of 35 shots on goal, Marcelo Bielsa’s side had the better chances in the first half, but the guests grew into the game as the home fans’ excitement turned into nervousness in a hesitant encounter.

Raphinha had opened the gate for Leeds in the 19th minute with a clinical low finish from outside the penalty area.

After eight minutes in the second half, West Ham believed they had equalized, but Tomas Soucek failed after referee Kevin Friend checked the monitor on the sidelines and discovered Antonio had fouled goalkeeper Illan Meslier.

The Hammers eventually found a way through when Jarrod Bowen’s shot from the box was deflected into the net by Junior Firpo.

In the first minute of stoppage time, Leeds were caught on the counterattack when Antonio threw the ball past defender Jamie Shackleton before locking in the winner to push the hosts into the bottom three.

This is only the second time in Leeds history that they have not won any of their first six games in a high-profile campaign – the last time it happened in 1935-36.
