Danger! Fans have loved Alex Trebek’s family since he died of pancreatic cancer on November 8th. On Wednesday, Jean Trebek, his wife since 1990, with whom he shared two children, took a moment to acknowledge their support.
“My family and I sincerely thank you all for your compassionate messages and your generosity,” she shared on Instagram. “Your facial expressions really touched our hearts. Many thanks. “
The host’s death was greeted with condolences by his loyal fans, including longtime viewers, celebrities and former contestants. The 80-year-old had directed the quiz show for 36 years since the revised version debuted nationwide in September 1984.
Former candidate James Holzhauer who holds the record for the danger! The player, who won the most money in a single game, said he appeared alongside Trebek earlier this year to promote the show’s “Greatest of All Time Tournament,” in which Holzhauer competed against Ken Jennings and Brad Rutter . While the players were available to answer questions, everyone knew Trebek was who they really wanted. That was the last day that Holzhauer spent with the TV star.

Trebek announced his diagnosis in March 2019 and provided regular updates, including one in July. He then said he felt “great” apart from the fatigue caused by his chemotherapy, and looked forward to returning to Jeopardy! once the coronavirus pandemic allowed.
The show went back into production that same month after a four-month hiatus, with Trebek again at the helm. He filmed until October 29th and that final show will air on December 25th.
