Top Wall Street firms could trigger a supply shock

Some Wall Street firms, including spot Bitcoin ETF issuer BlackRock Inc, MicroStrategy Incorporated and Coinbase Global Inc, are strengthening their BTC positions, adding to a looming supply shock on the horizon.

Eleven top HODLers were listed in a published chart by crypto analytics platform HODL15Capital. The chart showed details of how much Bitcoin these Wall Street firms currently have in their portfolio. The list includes notable Bitcoin ETF issuers, software companies, exchanges and crypto miners, underscoring the growing diversity in cryptocurrency acceptance.

BlackRock IBIT holds the largest amount of Bitcoin, outperforms MicroStrategy who held the position for the longest time. More specifically, the BlackRock Spot Bitcoin ETF holds a total of 243,125 BTC units. Michael Saylor's MicroStrategy has about 214,246 Bitcoins after its latest purchase, giving the business intelligence and software company 1% of the total BTC supply.

These two companies are followed by another spot Bitcoin ETF issuer Fidelity Investments with 136,034 Bitcoin. Next were ARK 21Shares ARKB and Bitwise BITB with Bitcoin holdings of 40,298 and 30,292 respectively. Popular Bitcoin mining company Marathon Digital was also on the list, holding about 16,930 Bitcoin units.

Other companies with significant Bitcoin holdings included Tesla, Coinbase and even Jack Dorsey's Block Inc., which had the lowest BTC volume at 8,027 units.

As these top Wall Street firms increase their BTC holdings, a supply shock may be underway. For comparison, regular exchanges and trading platforms may have little or no Bitcoin available to their regular customers. This supply pressure has been brewing on some exchanges for some time and could eventually affect the entire industry.
