A weekly competition for the spring group Ones 2021

What a great day of racing in Caulfield Guineas / Spring Masters and he set us up for an extremely exciting week – it’s Caulfield Cup / The Everest Weekend!

It got us scouring the futures markets in search of value while looking at the big group ones with the aim of getting to the feature race days with some overs.

We’re spending $ 50 each week and we’ll keep an eye on our live tickets as the spring progresses.

Here we hope for some futures replenishments 🙏💰

WEEK 10 – OCTOBER 12

Our Caulfield and Thousand Guineas runners never made it to their respective races so it has been a quiet weekend in terms of potential collectors.

However, we saw encouraging runs from three horses we left behind on the track: Dosh, Forgot You, and Delphi.

Dosh led all the way and was put on the post in the G2 Schillachi Stakes by senior sprinter – and G1 Goodwood winner – Savatoxl. She should prove competitive at the Coolmore.

Forgot You was excellent late in the Caulfield Guineas. He never had a chance of winning, but his last three starts have been 1500m, 1600m and 1600m – he is now crying out for more.

He seems like the one to beat in the derby if he goes there – he also holds nominations for the Cox Plate and Melbourne Cup.

Delphi was simply dominant in G2 Herbert Power (2400m) and looks on the way to the Melbourne Cup. With the weight penalty on Monday, he is sure to start on the first Tuesday in November.

The big concern (for us) will be how it goes this weekend.

He’s now the second chosen for the Caulfield Cup – if he wins (and he can) we didn’t endorse him for this race! Not to mention it will mean another penalty in the Melbourne Cup.

We may have to do something about it – which brings me to the $ 50 spend this week!

DELPHI

$ 10 to win the Caulfield / Melbourne Cup Double @ $ 46 (Sportsbet)

We supported him for the Melbourne Cup and he looks on the right track. However, as said above, we unfortunately don’t have him in the Caulfield Cup, where he has as good a chance as everyone else – outside of Incentivise. In fact, it is currently the second favorite in most markets. This bet won’t give us a collect if he wins, but at least we won’t kick ourselves if he does Plus, it could also give us something great to cheer on on Melbourne Cup day too.

Next stop, the Caulfield Cup.

VERY ELLEEGANT

$ 5 to win the Cox Plate @ $ 8.50 (Sportsbet, Palmerbet)

Well, a week after her disappointing Turnbull performance, we saw Zaaki take an equally disappointing run in the Might And Power. The star 3YO Anamoe, who confirmed himself for the Cox Plate after his outstanding victory in the Caulfield Guineas, also contributed to the intrigue. I have long referred to the three as the only ones Australian-trained horses I can see the Cox Plate victory and although I don’t take anything away from the boys, I still want to be with this mare. When the Cox Plate turns into a dogfight, we know it’s tooth and nail, Turnbull flop aside.

KAPALUA SUNSET and ELUSIVE EXPRESS

Supporting these two fillies for the PRC Oaks ahead of their respective assignments this week.

$ 15 to win the VRC Oaks @ $ 8.50 (Sportsbet, Palmerbet)

Only the two start the name of this Tavistock filly, but their first win had to be seen to be believed. She got out of the 1875m at Kyneton on her second career start and worked in the early to mid-stage of the race before Brett Prebble let her run far from home. In the end she won with 7L, with 3rd place more than 10L from her. Although she drove against modest competition, it was the victory of a very talented filly – you just don’t do that in the second career start over 1875 m! She is nominated for Caulfield this Saturday, where another similar performance will cut her Oaks odds significantly. Interestingly, Danny O’Brien also nominated her for the PRC Derby …

$ 15 to win the VRC Oaks @ $ 8 (TAB, Ladbrokes, Pointsbet, Bluebet)

This daughter of Melbourne Cup finisher Jakkalberry has had an excellent start to her career with an overall record of 4: 2-1-1 – including a G2 3rd over 1400m in Caulfield and a G2 victory over a mile in Flemington. Camp has said she is on an Oaks trail but decided to take her to the Thousand Guineas this Wednesday via the traditional G3 Ethereal (2000m) on Caulfield Cup day. Taking her to Guinea, where stable mate Zouzarella is the favorite, shows the opinion they have of her. A good effort on Wednesday will cut them short in the Oaks markets.
