X Inks Deal to Display BetMGM Sports Betting Statistics on Site: Report

  • The deal, whose financial terms were not disclosed, comes two weeks before Super Bowl LVIII.

According to Fortune, X plans to launch a new sports betting feature after signing a deal with digital gambling platform BetMGM.

BetMGM is the online sports betting subsidiary of MGM Resorts International, the Las Vegas-based hospitality company behind a portfolio of luxury hotels valued at approximately $15 billion, including Bellagio, Mandalay Bay, MGM Grand and Park MGM.

BetMGM, a competitor to gambling platforms such as DraftKings and FanDuel, debuted in 2018 following a deal between MGM and British gambling operator GVC Holdings.

The deal comes about two weeks before Super Bowl LVIII, which is expected to see a record 50.4 million U.S. adults betting on the game, according to CNN. These bets are largely suggestion bets or “prop bets” that relate to events in the game that have nothing to do with the outcome of the game.

“With 60 to 70 percent of our Super Bowl revenue coming from prop bets, we have a prop catalog of 400 to 500 prop bets that we can distribute to our customers,” reported Carl Johnson, BetMGM's sports director of Beau Rivage Casino, said about this year's game. “We expect several stakes in the six-figure range and are not ruling out stakes in the seven-figure range.”

The two teams that will face each other this year will be determined on Sunday after the final two playoff games: last year's champion, the Kansas City Chiefs, will face the Baltimore Ravens for a slot, while the winner of a faceoff is between the Detroit Lions and the San Francisco 49ers will get the second ticket.
