Loughborough swimmer Daniel Wiffen continued his remarkable recent form, breaking two new Irish records at the 2022 Scottish National Championships in Edinburgh.

The 21-year-old’s mammoth time of 14:14.45 in the men’s 1500m freestyle saw Wiffen erase his own previous Irish record of 14:32.13.

The fast time put Wiffen in the record books as the sixth fastest 1500m swimmer in history.

Wiffen’s stormy performance put him on the podium ahead of his Loughborough compatriot Toby Robinson (14:40.53), while his brother Nathan Wiffen also broke the 15-minute barrier to take the bronze in 14:57.50.

At the start of the competition, Daniel stated his intentions by setting another new Irish national record in the men’s 400m individual medley by hitting the wall in 4:11.05.
