Twitter flames Tua Tagovailoa after fourth-quarter collapse originally appeared on NBC Sports Boston
It was a Christmas to forget for them Miami Dolphins.
Before Sunday’s game against the Green Bay Packers, Miami was in the best starting position do the postseason.
But after a 26-20 loss, the Dolphins fell to 8-7 – their fourth straight loss – and the playoffs look less likely. Miami still holds the last AFC wild card spot despite four teams being a game behind (Patriots, Jets, Titans, Steelers).
The Dolphins’ defeat on Sunday was immediately attributed to Tua Tagovailoa, who was intercepted in the fourth quarter on the last three possessions of the game. The third-year quarterback was accurate in the first half, finishing 9-of-12 for 229 yards and a touchdown.
In the last frame, however, everything fell apart. Tagovailoa finished 16 of 25 for 310 yards, a touchdown and the aforementioned three costly interceptions.
Social media took to Tagovailoa after the game, which ended with an ugly pick thrown straight at Packers cornerback Rasul Douglas.
NBC Sports football analyst Matthew Berry had a simple post-game question in the form of a Twitter poll.
Several other pundits noted that Tagovailoa appears to be relying on his trainer Mike McDaniel and quick receivers Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle.
The Dolphins still control their own playoff destiny as two season-ending wins would clear their ticket. Miami will attend New England Patriots next weekend before closing with a home game against the New York Jets.
