BRANDON, SD — Garet Williamson and Tyler Rabenberg both won for the first time at Huset’s Speedway on Sunday night before Mother Nature won the final highlight of the evening at Myrl & Roy’s Paving Night.
A downpour hit just as the main drivers of the Tri-State Late Models prepared to head onto the track to the Ben Nothdurft Memorial presented by the Bargain Barn Tire Center and Tire Motive.
410 Outlaw Sprint Cars
The two completed tracks presented new winners, with Williamson leading the final 15 laps of the Buffalo Wild Wings Northern Outlaw Sprint Association 25-lap race and Cressman Sanitation 410 Outlaw Sprint Cars A Main, earning his first career triumph at the track.
Jade Hastings led for the first ten laps before a hiccup at turns three and four in heavy traffic cost him two positions. Hastings faltered, skipped the pad and fell back to third place. Williamson took the lead and Dusty Zomer was second at turn four.
Hastings slotted in just behind Zomer, who had to be careful into turn one to avoid a slowing lap driver. Hastings climbed in the back of Zomer and turned them both. Williamson led the rest of the race and finished 0.730 seconds ahead of Carson McCarl. Kasey Kahne, Chase Randall and Austin McCarl completed the top five.
Sprint Car Series
Rabenberg maintained the lead during the caution-plagued main event of the Wyffels Hybrids RaceSaver Sprint Car Series and secured his first career win at Huset’s Speedway.
A red flag early in the race was followed by five warnings during the 20-lap main race. While Rabenberg erased significant leads with the cautions, he quickly built up a comfortable 2.595 second lead at every opportunity en route to victory.
Trevor Serbus fought his way up from 11th to second with Dusty Ballenger third. Trefer Waller was fourth and Luke Nellis was fifth.
Late Models
The Tri-State Late Models survived five qualifying rounds – with Tad Pospisil, Cole Searing, Cade Richards, Blair Nothdurft and Chuck Swenson each setting fast times – five heat races – won by Pospisil, Searing, Cody Martin, Nothdurft and Swenson – and two B Main Race – won by Shane DeMey and Charlie Olsen – to set the stage for the 40-lap Main Event. Swenson should start from pole position.
