What’s it like to be a San Francisco Giants fan these days? I really have no idea. First off, I’m a Chicago White Sox fan, so I don’t know how to handle cheering for a team that even signs a big free agent. The Sox have reportedly signed Andrew Benintendi to a five-year, $75 million deal, and it’s the largest free-agent deal they’ve signed in franchise history.
San Francisco tried to give Correa nearly five times the money until they didn’t. I don’t know exactly what happened, but I know the result. Instead of the Giants giving Correa $350 million The Mets gave him $315 million.
I hope the Correa family can survive on $35 million less, but back to my original question. What’s it like to be a Giants fan? First, your team wowed you by signing a notable player (after trying and failing to land Aaron Judge) and then losing the player. It must be a roller coaster of emotions.
How do you recover from this? How do you trust your team for the future? Maybe I’m better off standing up for a team that refuses to spend money because they care more about being profitable.

What’s crazier? That we have an NFL game Thursday night that will mean something in the playoff race, or that we’ll have the Jets and Jaguars play an important game? Seriously, go back to when the NFL schedule was released and see for yourself that this game was going to matter. Figuring out how to time travel will probably be easier.
Anyway, tonight’s game counts. Neither the Jets nor the Jaguars would be in the playoffs if the season ended now, but both desperately need a win tonight to keep their hopes alive. Especially for the Jets because there’s no way they can catch the Buffalo Bills in the AFC East. Meanwhile, the Jaguars could lose, drop to 6-9 and still not be out of the running in the AFC South because the AFC South is just so bad, but I still don’t recommend them trying to see how bad it is can be .

And me? Well, I’m grateful that this holiday season I’m getting the chance to fade Zach Wilson as the favorite in a Primetime Spotlight game. Wilson was all but abandoned by his teammates and coaching staff before the Jets had to reinstate him last week, and while his numbers weren’t bad in the Detroit loss, he was still the same as Zach Wilson. He takes a few risks he shouldn’t and hopes enough of them pay off.
That’s not the case with Jacksonville’s Trevor Lawrence, who is beginning to look like the player everyone expected him to be when he went to Jacksonville as the No. 1 in 2021. A lot of people thought the Jets achieved it by taking Wilson at No. 1. 2. Nobody thought Lawrence was a reach and things worked accordingly.
Sometimes things are so simple. If there is an NFL game between a bad QB and a good QB and the team with the bad QB is favored, take the dog with the good QB.

The Choice: About 43.5 (-110) — When the Armed Forces Bowl opened, Baylor was a 6.5-point favorite. The total was set at 48.5 and even reached 49.5. Both have moved significantly, with Baylor now just a 3.5-point favorite and that total standing at 43.5. I loved Air Force at +6.5 but I don’t like it nearly as much now. However, the total has come down as tonight’s forecast has temperatures in the high teens (in Fort Worth, Texas!) with winds in excess of 20mph.
Well, normally that would be all I need to shoot the Under, but the total is so low I think we’re getting tremendous value. First off, Air Force is an options team. The wind will not affect his offense. It will let the ball run 90% of the time against a poor run defense. In the meantime, I expect the Bears to be pretty good at moving the ball against an Air Force defense that has solid numbers but hasn’t faced many strong offenses this season. After all, Baylor was one of the most aggressive fourth-down teams in the country. It was fourth place 41 times. Only Texas Tech has tried more times. The Bears converted 65.9% of their attempts, lengthening drives and increasing scoring opportunities. And if they fail, the Air Force is left with a shorter field, which in turn increases their chances of scoring. It’s a win-win situation for us.

George Washington in Washington State, 9 p.m. | TV: ESPN2

George Washington Colonials +10.5
The Election: George Washington +10.5 (-110) — The colonialists don’t get enough respect! While the metrics are still like Washington State, at some point you’ll have to stop caring about what the numbers say. Maybe we’re getting closer to that time with the Cougars. They’re 4-6 on the season but while just one of their six losses can be considered a dreadful defeat, you’ll have to win a few of those games to earn the respect they’re getting with this line-up tonight.
Don’t get me wrong, the Cougars are better than the Colonials, but are they over 10 points better than them on a neutral pitch? I’m not sure. Wazzu has struggled to defend livery and interiors all year, and the Colonials have excelled there. They shoot 59.7% of two, which is the fifth highest percentage in the country. While I have serious concerns about George Washington’s defense in this duel, it matters more to me in the context of the Colonials’ victory. It doesn’t worry me enough to think they can’t keep this respectable.
