Bills’ Damar Hamlin collapses on field against Bengals at ‘MNF’ Buffalo Security in ‘Critical Condition’

A scary scene played out during the first quarter of Monday night’s game between the Bills and the Bengals. At 5:58 of the opening quarter, Bill’s safety Damar Hamlin was injured after tackling Bengal’s wideout Tee Higgins. Hamlin initially got up after making the tackle, but quickly fell back to the ground. The league officially postponed the game.

Hamlin was lying on a stretcher and was just being transferred to an ambulance before being resuscitated in the field for a few minutes. Upon entering the ambulance, he was given oxygen, which transported him to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center.

The game was temporarily suspended after coaches Sean McDermott and Zac Taylor spoke on the field. The NFL later made the decision to move the game to the evening. Play was originally scheduled to resume five minutes after Hamlin was taken off the field before the decision to sit out play was made.

Hamlin, 24, is in the middle of his second season with the Bills. He earned a spot on the Bills starting lineup this season after appearing in 14 games as a rookie. Hamlin played collegially at Pitt, where he had 276 tackles and six interceptions.
