Sports betting earnings are expected to bring in $24 million by next June.
COLUMBUS, Ohio — Sports betting in Ohio kicked off Jan. 1 and businesses like Donerick’s Pub in Reynoldsburg are poised to see patrons place a bet while buying a beer.
“I think it will certainly be better for business. I think it’s going to bring in a lot of money,” said bartender Bandy Gadrim.
Half of Ohio sports betting profits go to interscholastic athletics for students in K-12. The other half goes to education for K-12 students.

What isn’t clear is the formula that determines how much each school district receives.
Right now, winnings from sports betting go to the Ohio General Assembly, which will then distribute the funds through the Sports Education Gaming Fund. It is estimated that sports betting breaks down to around $160-$170 per student.
It is also estimated that sports betting in Ohio will bring in $24 million by June next year but could reach $90 million a year over the next three to five years.
At Donerick’s Pub, they use the Sports Bet Ohio sports betting app.
Once you download the app to your phone, you can start betting on everything from major sports to tennis to cricket.
Once you’ve chosen the sport and how much you want to bet, the app creates a QR that needs to be scanned at the bar. This scan is sent to a kiosk that will print out your bet slip, which you will need to redeem your winnings.
“Right now we’re only doing payouts once a week until we get the hang of it,” Gadrim said.

- Brunswick: 7 kiosks
- Canton and northern canton: 16 kiosks
- Cincinnati: 43 kiosks
- Cleveland: 26 kiosks
- Columbus: 46 kiosks
- Dayton: 17 kiosks
- Parma and Parma Heights: 22 kiosks
- Toledo: 26 kiosks
- Youngstown: 16 kiosks
The Ohio Lottery pre-approved 1,500 kiosk operatorshowever only 1,075 have received conditional approval to operate a kiosk from the Ohio Casino Control Commission. According to PlayOhio, “At least 11 online betting apps began accepting bets Sunday at 12:01 am in Ohio. That number will continue to grow, but it was already there biggest one day launch of online betting apps in our nation’s history.
