Mark Woodley shows news viewers what happens “when you ask the jock to come in to cover a snowstorm on the morning show”.
The KWWL sports host went viral after his live coverage of the blizzard-like conditions in Waterloo, Iowa, racked up over two million views on Twitter due to his candid remarks about being out and about in inclement weather on Thursday.
“This is a really long show. Tune in for the next few hours to see me get more and more moody and moody,” he quipped on the air.
Woodley explained that he was tasked with doing the early morning weather report before he regularly wakes up after sporting events in the area were canceled due to the weather.
“What better time to ask the athlete to come about five hours earlier than they would normally wake up and face the wind, snow and cold and tell other people not to do the same?” he told viewers.
He added, “I didn’t know there was 3:30 in the morning — until today.”
As the show continued, he shared that his colleague Clint got “the better end” of the assignment chasing a storm, telling viewers, “I have good news and I have bad news. The good news is I can still feel my face. The bad news is that I kind of wish I couldn’t.
While he covered the weather for most of Thursday’s early morning, his coverage eventually earned him some new fans, including the likes of Judd Apatow, David Cross and NFL Network host Rich Eisen.
Apatow called the Iowa sportscaster a “legend,” while Cross retweeted the clip. Eisen shared the video in a tweet, writing, “Proud of this TV work that just popped up on my timeline. Well played, Mark.”

Woodley also received some praise from people in the Iowa area.
Radio host Todd Brommelkamp shared the news video, writing, “You won’t become a one-time Iowa Sportscaster of the Year by staying in your lane.”
Sharing Brommelkamp’s tweet on his own Twitter page, Woodley commented, “This has been my wife’s favorite so far. Well done @ToddBrommelkamp!”
The network also shared a message about Woodley’s segment on its website, writing in the article, “No Woodleys were harmed in the making of the morning news show.”
