Sport Secretary Jack Chambers says Katie Taylor vs Amanda Serrano at Croke Park ‘would be phenomenal’

Sport Secretary Jack Chambers has pledged his support for a Katie Taylor vs Amanda Serrano homecoming fight at Croke Park in October.

Certainly my door will be open and I am willing to work to make that happen. I think it would be phenomenal to see Katie fight in Ireland and if possible at Croke Park. The Irish want that to happen,” he said.

Speaking at the opening of Sport Ireland’s Tokyo Olympics review, the minister acknowledges there were obstacles to be overcome if the rematch were to take place in Dublin.

“There are the broader complications that we know have affected how fights are played out over the last six years,” he said.

“But if it’s possible and there are other specialists who will obviously help but I would love for the Irish public to be able to see Katie fight at home.

“We’ve all followed her story over the years and she’s still at the peak of her success and it would be great to see her fight her,” added the minister, who congratulated Taylor on claiming her undisputed lightweight crown after an epic fight in Madison Square Garden last Saturday night.

“She is one of our best athletes and a leading figure in women’s sport. We totally support her and hope she can fight in Ireland. Obviously there are a number of factors that come into play, including insurance,” he admitted.
