You will also be part of a specific program to learn more about the young European multisport event and to observe its sports, cultural and media facilities in operation.
The process initiated by European Championships Management (ECM) is expected to conclude with the appointment of the host city at the end of 2022.
And an ECM spokesman said: “Cities are showing great interest in hosting the Multisport European Championships in 2026.
“We have been building relationships with cities since the inaugural edition in Glasgow and Berlin in 2018 and while many are currently expressing interest in hosting the event in 2026, we know there is a long way to go to gather the support needed for a serious candidacy to get forward.
“We are ready to support potential cities in their first feasibility studies and, if there is positive interest, we will work with a potential host to develop a comprehensive project in line with the city’s own sporting, economic, cultural and social goals
“Many cities have the facilities and scale in place to host the European Championships on their own, and there are even more potential candidates when cities work together within a country or region. However, a double-city concept can only be considered if two or more cities are to apply to host different sports within the European Championship program at the same time.
“The innovative and cost-effective hosting model aims to make it accessible and affordable for a wide range of cities. It costs more than the individual European Championships it contains, but at the same time it costs massively less than an Olympics – while generating very strong advantages for the host city.
“What we find interesting from discussions with potential host cities is that we learn that the goals they want to achieve by hosting the event are diverse and diverse and not just focused on media exposure. In some cases, local, social and environmental factors play an increasingly important role.”
Projects with one or more cities wishing to host the European Championships will be considered according to the technical requirements and the objective to use the existing sports infrastructure to optimize the sustainability efforts.
The European Championships brings together the continental championships of some of the leading sports into one multi-sport event to create a must-see and must-attend experience that highlights the champions of Europe.
The innovative hosting model for the best European athletes is specifically designed to ensure that a major international event can be run in a cost-effective and sustainable manner that is affordable for many cities in Europe.
Following the success of the first European Championships in Glasgow and Berlin in 2018, the second edition will take place in Munich from August 11-21, 2022 as the centerpiece of the 50th anniversary of the 1972 Olympic Games in the German city.
The 100-day milestone was marked yesterday, Tuesday 3 May, in front of a total of 4,700 athletes competing in 177 medal events in 9 Olympic sports (track and field, beach volleyball, canoe sprint, cycling, gymnastics, rowing, sport climbing, table tennis, triathlon). ) this summer.
