The Nexon’s 6-speed manual transmission should give it an edge over the Hyundai i20 N Line.
Tata Motors is reportedly working on a new hot hatchback based on the Altroz to take on the Hyundai i20 N Line. Dubbed the Altroz Sport, the new variant is rumored to be unveiled at the upcoming 2023 Auto Expo.
Currently, the Tata Altroz is available with two engine options. These include a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine and a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine, the latter being the sportier of the two. Latest reports suggest that Tata could use a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine in the Altroz Sport, tuned to deliver 118hp and 170Nm.
It’s also said that the engine could be mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox from the Nexon. While the manual transmissions aren’t Tata’s forte, they should give the Altroz Sport an edge over the i20 N Line, which is only available with a clutchless iMT and a 7-speed DCT.
The Altroz Sport could also get subtle design changes to differentiate it from the i-Turbo variant. A few tweaks to the bumpers and a sporty set of alloy wheels should suffice.
