Opening day for all women's sports bars in the Seward area

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. — A line along the building, bagpipes and a first pitch greeted opening day at A Bar of Their Own Friday morning.

The new bar will showcase all women's sports at all times.

For many, it has been a long time coming.

“I played hockey for about 12 years and we had to beg for ice time,” said Colleen Woodley of St. Paul.

People of all ages filled the bar before lunchtime.

The pub in the Seward district takes the place of the former Tracy's Saloon and Eatery.

“Absolute madness, but in the best way possible,” said owner Jillian Hiscock.

Hiscock said the goal was to create a space for women's sports and fans after visiting a sports bar last year that was missing.

“I think people were prepared for this and have been waiting for this for a really long time, and that's why it means so much to have it here and have people in it,” Hiscock said.

This all comes just in time for the Big Ten women's basketball tournament in Minneapolis.

“That's incredible. I love the atmosphere, I love that we finally have a place like this in Minnesota,” said Minnetonka resident Jami Cooper.

Such a popular spot on Friday that Hiscock and her staff really had to work to keep up as people waited outside for their turn.

“Our team has been very busy preparing for this. We’re doing our best to get everything done as quickly as possible, but it’s just fun to have people here,” Hiscock said.

An on-site bar is open from Wednesday to Sunday from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m
