News and Information – Friday Five: Be a good sport this weekend

2. Shoot some hoops

Grab some buddies and use our basketball court finder to find a dish near you. From Island Bay to Tawa, all of our outdoor courts are free to use. The indoor courts are inexpensive and the map shows you where to book them.

3. Book a social event

Schools and sports clubs often book sports pitches for games and practices, but companies and community groups can also book them for activities and team building days. We maintain more than 40 parks. To make a booking visit our website.

We also have a range of sports and leisure facilities. Find one near you using our online map.

4. Climb a peak

Check out our interactive map with 12 recommended peaks around the city. Find out where the best entry point is for each and what kind of climb you can expect on your way to the top. Most are suitable for those of average fitness, but if you are looking for a greater challenge there is information on how to extend the hikes a bit.

Visit our Trails and Walkways page to learn more about our accessible trails, stroller-friendly trails and our Top 20 Welly Walks.

5. Do a roll

There are council skate parks located throughout the city, offering locals and visitors a range of fun, accessible spots.

Prefer to venture into the bush on two wheels? Wellington’s hilly terrain makes it a great place for mountain biking. Use the many varied routes right outside our front door or visit the BMX route.
