COLCORD, Oklahoma — Sean McClelland inaugurated the redesigned Arrowhead Speedway near West Siloam Springs, Oklahoma, by driving to victory on Friday night’s 25-lap Oil Capital Racing Series race on the one-third mile Sandoval .
The Tulsa racer shot from the outside as the green flag dropped from the outside and then fended off Whit Gastineau’s late tackles to secure his 14th career OCRS feature win.
“I knew he was there,” McClelland explained of Gastineau’s advances. “My car was getting so tight that I kept slowing down to make sure I held my line and didn’t give him a chance to pass.”
McClelland, a three-time serial winner, passed defending champion Blake Edwards early on and got caught in traffic within a few laps, while Gastineau fought his way into second place and soon after began to close the gap.
Gastineau pressed to take the point before the first warning of the race flew after 14 laps for Fred Mattox’s stalled horse at turn two, then kept the pressure on until a final warning flew when Alex DeCamp passed Gastineau and almost spun just two laps from the end.
McClelland remained stable over the final two laps, crossing the checkered flag ahead of Gastineau and DeCamp. Edwards and ninth starter Bradley Fezard completed the top five.
