Lukaku scores seconds after Inter return in Lecce – Sport – The Guardian Nigeria News – Nigeria and World News

Romelu Lukaku made a dream start to his return to Inter Milan on Saturday after scoring less than two minutes after the Serie A club’s season opener in Lecce.

Belgium striker Lukaku nodded from close range with just 81 seconds left to put Inter ahead at the Stadio Via del Mare as they reclaimed the Scudetto from local rivals AC Milan 4-2 over Udinese on Saturday.

The 29-year-old had the easiest task to open his account for the campaign after Matteo Darmian smashed Federico Dimarco’s cross straight in his path.

Lukaku reportedly took a pay cut to €8.5m for the upcoming season in order to leave Chelsea.

He fared poorly in England and infuriated Chelsea fans by saying in an interview with Sky Sport Italia he wants to return to Inter, where he won the Serie A title in 2021 and scored 64 goals in 95 games in two years.

The move came sooner than expected, with Inter initially paying €8m plus a potential €3m in bonuses for the loan.

Italian media are reporting that Inter and Chelsea have a gentleman’s agreement whereby the loan could be extended for another season should the move go through.

After the deal was finalized, his attorney, Sebastien Ledure, said that “anything can happen” by the end of next season.
