Valley City offers a wonderful and unique golfing experience with two magnificent golf courses in our beautiful city.

Located on the beautiful Sheyenne River, Bjornson Golf Course offers golfers a challenging 9-hole course that opened in 1994 and is managed by Valley City Parks & Recreation.

Valley City Town and Country Club is nestled in the heart of the valley overlooking the historic Hi-Line Bridge. Established in 1916 with the aim of encouraging interest in outdoor recreation and social and friendly interactions with other members of the community and organization.

Both golf courses encourage the Valley City community and visitors to play golf.

In fact, the Valley City Town and Country Club (VCTCC) recently sponsored a unique event on its regular Wednesday Ladies’ Day. The competition “Who can hit the most trees in 9 holes?” invited all female golfers, whether beginner or experienced golfer, to compete for this humorous championship title.

Each week the ladies’ course day begins indoors at the Trestles Bar and Grill. Various and entertaining “games of the day” are offered on the golf course. These games could be anything.

Nicole Swenson from the VCTCC Ladies Association explains the concept of the Game of the Day. “We created this game of the day last year to encourage new golfers to check out the club. We wanted to have some fun games alongside our more challenging games like longest drive, longest putt, closest to pin. Those games for more experienced golfers.” Swenson continues, “We wanted to have some of those fun games for everyone, like hitting the most trees or the shortest putt. We have a pink ball game where everyone starts with a pink ball and if you still have it at the end of the round you are drawn.”

So who secured the title of Champion Tree Hitter? The winner was none other than Nicole Swenson herself. “I won, I did it, I hit a whopping six trees,” Swenson said. But a third of that came with a hit of the bat. “I hit two trees with one shot and that put me over the edge (to win). I made a chip shot at one that hit two trees and went to the green.” Just for the record, she made a putt for the bogey.

Ladies Day at the VCTCC is open to all female golfers of all skill levels and you do not have to be a member of the Country Club or Ladies Association to attend a Ladies Day.

One of the main ideas behind Ladies The day consists of getting women of all skill levels to come to the country club. “A big comment I hear is, ‘I’m no good, I can’t play golf,'” said Tara Glandt of the Ladies Golf Association. “We don’t care about your skill level, we want more women to come out. We would be happy if our course were fully booked. I know people work, I get that, a lot of us go on 2. We usually make the turn on around 4.” Glandt adds, “It would be so much fun if you wanted to go out after work, too when not playing golf. Hang out and have dinner. We’re having fun, we really don’t care what your skills are, we really don’t care.”

Today (Wednesday, June 28th) the CC is hosting a women’s scramble for 4 people. Glandt is very pleased with the response they received for the scramble. “We have 18 teams, we think we could have a few walk-ins, so 18 or 19 teams, hopefully a few more. This is a complete course.”

Glandt adds: “A lot of companies in the city have done that We were very generous and donated wonderful door prizes to the scramble. We really appreciate the support from the community.”

According to Glandt, the country club will not only benefit from the day’s activities, but also from the ladies going out, enjoying the day, playing golf and winning prizes. “Whatever money we raise, we actually put it back into the country club.” Glandt continues, “We’re trying to make improvements and do things that help the country club continue to thrive.”
