Georgia Stanway: The England midfielder leaves Manchester City

Stanway’s last game for Manchester City was Sunday’s FA Cup final defeat

England midfielder Georgia Stanway has confirmed she is leaving Manchester City.

Stanway made her senior debut for City aged 16 and will leave the club as top scorer with 57 goals in 165 appearances.

“I came to Manchester City with a dream of becoming a professional footballer,” she said.

“I am grateful to have been able to call it my home for the past seven years.

“Today I leave the club as the top scorer with over 150 appearances and seven domestic trophies.

“A big thank you to the staff and teammates who have supported me throughout my journey. And to the fans who gave me unconditional support throughout the game.

“I’ve gained memories and friends for a lifetime. I’ll come back as a fan, if not a player.”

Stanway, who has 31 caps for England, won the Women’s Super League with City in 2016, as well as three League Cup and three FA Cup titles.

Their last game was on Sunday FA Cup final defeat from Chelsea.
