Dominant Doney rampages in Lake Ozark POWRi feature

BELLEVILLE, Ill. — Xavier Doney would find the fastest route to the winning streak with the POWRi Wingless Auto Racing Sprint League to win the Lake Ozark Speedway feature event and earn his third career feature win after leading all 25 laps had.

Early track successes included Wesley Smith setting a fast time on hot laps with a lap time of 14.021 seconds while Doney and Jack Wagner each claimed a heat racing victory.

On the first green flag start, top qualifier Doney battled fellow front row companion Kory Schudy in the first two corners, with a smooth running Doney taking the lead early in the race while Schudy, Wagner, Ty Hulsey and Craig Carroll es attempted to overrun the fast leader.

Leading all rounds of the main competition, Doney showed his racing prowess on a mirror-smooth track surface, benefiting the leader as Schudy and Wagner attempted to pass Doney.

Doney stayed steady over the final laps and didn’t let the main win be denied as the speedy Schudy would take a close second while Wagner recovered from a visit to the work area and finished third.

“It was great fun, it wouldn’t have been possible without Dan Lawson and my dad,” said a celebratory Doney at Eldon Missouri Victory Lane. Adding, “We went into the feature with a winning mentality as the tip was very technical and it all came down to patience.”

Hulsey put in a solid performance throughout the evening, eventually finishing in fourth place while Carroll rounded out the top five finish.
