Chris Wreh joined Southend from Banbury United in the summer
Southend United striker Chris Wreh says players are trying to stay positive despite the club’s struggles off the field.
The Shrimpers face a dissolution petition in the High Court on January 18 and the players received their November salaries a day late.
But Kevin Maher’s side avoided a third consecutive defeat with a 2-2 draw at Altrincham.
“Considering what’s going on, we remain solid as a group, which is good,” Wreh told ` Essex Sport.
Loans from fans paid the salaries of non-playing staff in October and They were again forced to wait for the money owed for the last month.
“We’re just here to play football and try to win. We want to get on with the club,” Wreh added.
“Everything that happens (off the pitch) is out of our hands. What is in our hands is trying to get three points.”
Wreh scored his fourth goal of the season against Altrincham and Southend remain sixth in the play-offs with 34 points from 22 games.
“I felt like we should have scored at least three goals in the first half, maybe four and of course it would have been game over.
“Confidence is always high. Any good team loses, that’s how you come back. I think we deserved the three (points) but we didn’t, we got one.”
Teammate Dan Mooney was sent off in the 83rd minute, adding to Maher’s injury woes among the forwards in his squad – Harry Cardwell, Jake Hyde, Rhys Murphy and Callum Powell were all unavailable.
“I don’t think there is a team in this league that would not be affected if four forwards were out,” he said.
“It’s something we have to deal with and to be in a good position in the play-offs is a testament to the players who played and it belongs to everyone around us.”
