Sam Hoskins has scored three goals this season, down from 22 when Northampton won promotion last season
Sam Hoskins struck a late winner to give newly promoted Northampton a win at a struggling Cheltenham.
The only goal of a largely unimaginative game came in the 88th minute after a ball from Sam Sherring went over the top of the home defense and left Hoskins only to beat Luke Southwood, and he confidently completed his third goal of the season.
The Robins are yet to score in six league and cup games this season and sit bottom in League One.
In the third minute, Will Ferry put the home side’s shot over the bar but Northampton controlled much of the opening period.
Patrick Brough fired a shot wide in the 17th minute and Kieron Bowie went wide after good work from Louis Appere in the 23rd minute.
Sherring then saw a header hit the crossbar five minutes later from a Marc Leonard corner.
Elliot Bonds fired a shot over the bar in the 61st minute and Luciano D’Auria-Henry’s header was fired by Sherring in the five-yard box, showing Cheltenham an improvement but Hoskins had the last word as the Cobblers seven points scored from their last three games as they adjust to life at a higher level.
