Pegula believes doubles partner Gauff is a clear favorite for the US Open: “She is the future of our sport”

American Jessica Pegula believes her young tennis colleague Coco Gauff is the “future of our sport.”

Despite her long existence, the 19-year-old is one of the highest-rated players in the tennis world.

Speaking about her doubles partner, Pegula praised the current world number six and believes she is destined to achieve great things in tennis.

“I’m glad it seemed like she gained confidence this week and was able to take her to Cincinnati,” said the 29-year-old. “I think she’s really confident. When a player is confident, that’s when they’re the hardest to beat.

“I know she loves playing with an audience. Yeah, I think she’s definitely a favorite for that. I think there are a lot of favourites, but yeah, especially them, them and the crowd when they have a lot of momentum that’s great.”

“Yeah, it was really nice to see. I’m glad she improved and learned. She’s the future of the sport, so… It’s nice to see.”

Gauff arrives at the US Open after securing an impressive triumph at the recently concluded Cincinnati Open (Western & Southern Open), where she defeated Marie Bouzkova of the Czech Republic 6-4, 6-0 in the final.
