Bunn, NC – Carlee Tart is a three-sport star at Bunn High School, but don’t let her first impressions fool you.
“If you look at her, she looks like she’s gentle and shy,” said her English teacher, Pa trick Reynell.
“I’m a bit shy at first,” Tart agreed.
“As a freshman, I don’t think she spoke,” said Bunn softball coach Melanie Lovin.
“She’s the friendliest, kindest kid you’ll ever meet,” said Bunn tennis coach Dale Murphy, “but there’s a struggle in her.”
With the tenacity to overcome a height of just 5ft 2, Tart is a three-year starter and the captain of the Bunn girls’ basketball team.
“Defensively everyone is talking about her,” said Bunn girls’ basketball coach Jan egg Bpaint. “Offensively, she passes the ball when she has to. She attacks the basket and she can shoot that thing.”
As a tennis player, Carlee has only played the sport for the past two years, but she still won the conference championship as a senior.
“She gives it to her. It’s not her number one sport,” Murphy said.
“She’s good at everything, but I think her passion is softball,” Lovin said.
“I’ve been playing softball since I was three years old,” Tart said. “I just love the game. It’s just so much fun to get out there and it’s just relaxing and peaceful.”
Tart dreams of playing softball in college. She was in the conference as a junior last season.
“The highlight was during the playoffs last year when she was chasing and catching a ball in midfield, running into the fence, hitting the ground, holding the ball up, excited but also hurt. But she wouldn’t tell anyone, and that’s Carlee in every detail,” Lovin recalled.
Tart also has a 3.7 grade point average.
“That same tenacity that shows on the field and on the pitch, you can see it in the classroom with how diligent she is at her job,” Reynell said.
