Stocks fall again as Wall Street's slow start to 2024 carries over to another day. The S&P 500 was down 0.6% on Wednesday, although still within 2% of its record. The Dow lost 224 points and the Nasdaq Composite was down 0.9%. Some of last year's biggest winners faltered again, with Tesla falling 4.4%. The question is whether all the excitement driving stocks near records is justified. It is based on the hope of lower interest rates and a robust economy. Later in the day, the Federal Reserve will release minutes from its latest meeting, which boosted hopes for lower interest rates.
