Bitcoin woes remain amid declining transactions and falling fees


  • Due to a steady decline in daily transactions on the Bitcoin network, network fees have fallen by over 15% over the past seven days.
  • BTC accumulation has declined in the face of strong resistance at $26,000.

The average transaction fee for bitcoin [BTC] Network is down more than 15% over the past week to around $0.85 as of August 26th. This represented the lowest level since July 30, data from IntoTheBlock showed.

The drop in fees was due to a slowdown in the number of transactions on the network. According to data from Blockchain.com, the number of daily transactions on the Bitcoin network plummeted after the Aug. 17 deleveraging event. Within 24 hours of the capital flight, the daily number of transactions on the network had dropped by over 15%.

As of August 26, the number of daily confirmed transactions on the Bitcoin network totaled 497,513.

The coin’s price continues to stagnate at $26,000

At press time, the price per BTC was $26,026, according to data from CoinMarketCap. After briefly above $26,500 on Aug. 23, the leading coin’s price corrected and has since traded below $26,100.

The emergence of a new bear cycle on Aug. 16, a day ahead of the coin futures markets deleveraging, has seen BTC face further resistance at the $26,000 price level. As positive sentiment continues to be suppressed, accumulation momentum has slowed among day traders.

With the bear cycle still ongoing at press time, BTC’s MACD line remained positioned below its trend line.

The coin’s Directional Movement Index (DMI) underscores the strength of BTC sellers in the current cycle, showing on a daily chart that BTC bears are in control of the market. At the time of this writing, the positive directional index (green) was at 13.16 below the negative directional index (green) at 29.27.

Additionally, the Average Directional Index (ADX) was 31.64. An ADX reading above 25 indicates the trend is strong. This often signals that the price is moving in a clear direction and is likely to continue moving in that direction.

If so, BTC sellers have overwhelmed prospective buyers of the coin and the price could remain below $26,500 until sentiment improves.

As the market ponders the coin’s next price action, accumulation has decreased significantly. Key momentum indicators showed that BTC was oversold as many began to “shed” their bags to forestall further price declines. The coin’s Relative Strength Index (RSI) stood at 24.68, while its Money Flow Index (MFI) stood at 14.73.
