Gov. Janet Mills is championing the middle class and businesses when she uses the budget surplus to provide $850 checks to about 800,000 Mainers. The impact on Maine’s economy will be much larger than the original $680 million boost when calculated using an economic multiplier effects model.
If Gov. Mills sends that $680 million into the economy, the original recipients of that money will spend in Maine businesses. Then those companies will spend that money on other Maine companies, and whoosh, that $680 million has been spent twice in the economy. Then it will be issued here again and taxed here as well.
Governor Mills is a hero for mid-level entrepreneurs. It saves Maine stores check after check!
