If you're looking for further proof that the 2024 Oscars were rooted in a bigger is better atmosphere, look no further than the plethora of gems on the red carpet and at the Dolby Theater. These days, necklaces sometimes take a backseat to chandelier earrings or a statement cocktail ring on red carpets, but not this year, as necklaces, pendants and sautoirs dominated the parade of gemstones at the 96th Academy Awards. Other jewelry trends seen at the 96th Academy Awards include the proliferation of stunning gemstones, from the sapphires on Emma Stone's Louis Vuitton jewelry to the morganites favored by Zendaya – one of the night's best-dressed stars to the stunning 30-plus carat aquamarine on the Tiffany & Co. Blue Book necklace worn by Gabrielle Union. White diamonds tend to dominate major red carpets, and while they were undeniably ubiquitous here too, the presence of brilliant hues amidst all those diamonds was a welcome addition to an evening of luxury.
With that in mind, The Hollywood Reporter selected a dozen pieces that shone on the red carpet, from vintage jewels to designs freshly crafted in European workshops, each playing a unique role in the glitz of Hollywood's biggest night.
Zendaya in Bulgarian

Since 2020, the “Dune: Part Two” star has been a Bulgari ambassador and often wears high-performance pieces from the jewelry house's iconic Serpenti collection, but for the 2024 Oscars, actress and celebrity stylist Law Roach opted for high-end jewelry in delicate pink hues , which went wonderfully with her Giorgio Armani Privé dress. These earrings feature an exquisite pair of triangle-cut morganites totaling 42.19 carats, surrounded by pink tourmalines, mandarin garnets and diamonds, all set in 18k rose gold.

Erivo, who will portray Elphaba in the upcoming film Wicked, enjoyed honoring her character with a custom Louis Vuitton dress and emerald leather bolero, and she also extended the theme to her manicure and jewelry, the latter by designer Roberto Coin. Diamond and tsavorite earrings and an emerald and diamond bracelet were fresh from Coin's workshop in Italy, while Erivo accented her nail art with a series of rings from Coin's Princess collection.

Admittedly, the earrings weren't necessary for this look, partly because Charlize Theron's Boucheron's Quatre Radiant Edition choker and necklace, both crafted from 18-karat white gold and encrusted with diamonds, lived up to their name under the lights at the Dolby Theater. She reflects the light beautifully, especially against the sparkling silver silk of her Dior Haute Couture dress. A variety of Boucheron rings completed the ensemble, but the necklace and choker really completed this look.

The “Poor Things” star and Best Actress Oscar winner enjoyed a fairytale night out in head-to-toe Louis Vuitton, including pieces from the house's recently released Deep Time jewelry collection. Alongside Stone's mint silk jacquard peplum dress, her yellow sapphires were a standout choice, including the 30.47-carat octagonal step-cut sapphire at the center of this drift necklace, which is also set with diamonds set in 18-karat white gold was.

Ke Huy Quan, an early adopter of the men's brooch trend, had no intention of straying from what he considers his good luck charm when he won the 2023 Best Supporting Actor Oscar for Everything Everywhere All at Once. This year, his choice was half of a set of vintage 1938 Cartier Tradition chevron clips with sapphires and diamonds in 18-karat white gold, which the actor paired with his Giorgio Armani burgundy double-breasted evening jacket.

Few people looked happier on the red carpet than Gabrielle Union, who attended the 2024 Oscars with husband Dwyane Wade. From her embellished Wes Gordon for Carolina Herrera mini dress and column skirt to her Tiffany & Co. jewels, Union simply radiated. This included the necklace from Tiffany & Co.'s Blue Book Botanica collection, featuring over 31 carats of emerald-cut aquamarine surrounded by diamonds set in platinum.

Among the best-dressed women of the evening, America Ferrera dazzled by paying homage to Barbie in pink with her Atelier Versace chainmail dress. She also deserves major praise for not matching her jewelry too closely, opting instead for a tonal effect, which was achieved with Pomellato's Ode to Milan Castello necklace, which features five reverse-set rubellites totaling more than Presented at 29 carats, surrounded by over 28 carats of diamonds and set in 18 carat rose gold.

Several attendees chose vintage jewels for the 2024 Oscars, including actress Grace Gummer, who was in attendance with husband Mark Ronson, a nominee for Best Original Song for Barbie. Gummer's custom-made Gucci dress with all-over sequins and a plunging V-neckline provided the perfect backdrop for this Estate Art Deco Sautoir necklace by Briony Raymond, crafted from round baguette-cut diamonds set in platinum.

With her elegant custom Louis Vuitton dress in light blue, writer, director and producer Ava DuVernay also went toned with her jewelry, wearing earrings and a pair of rings from Reza. This cone ring features the great color combination of an oval cut sapphire in deep blue surrounded by turquoise tourmalines, all set in 18k white gold.

The Barbie star and executive producer surprised everyone in the best way possible when she appeared at the 2024 Oscars not in her trademark pink of the last nine months, but in an Atelier Versace dress in a brown so deep that many style experts were amazed Were convinced it was black. Her neutral choices extended to her manicure and jewelry, including a vintage piece by Fred Leighton, a 1980s Tourade cuff by Rene Boivin, crafted from 18-karat yellow gold and embellished with diamonds.

A brooch has become a ubiquitous piece of men's jewelry on red carpets, which only makes it more exciting when a star and her stylist use it in imaginative ways. That was the case for Barbie co-star Simu Liu and his celebrity stylist Chloe Takayanagi, who accented her black Fendi tuxedo with a 32.61-carat diamond platinum brooch from De Beers' Imaginary Nature jewelry collection, which was part of the jacket's clasp compared to the more traditional and expected lapel placement.

It's easy to tell if a woman knows she looks stunning by the way she walks across a room, and that was undeniably the case for Jamie Lee Curtis, who attended the 2024 Oscars in an elegant black Dolce & Gabbana gown shone. Her jewels from Santa Monica resident Cathy Waterman only supported this idea, including a wide 22-karat yellow gold and platinum cuff adorned with diamonds and sapphires. The cuff is inspired by Waterman's first trip to Paris with her parents, when as a young girl she saw the Winged Victory Statue of Samothrace, the iconic statue dating from around 190 BC. BC in the Louvre Museum. The piece actually features the winged statue made of platinum and diamonds, flanked by temple motifs accented with sapphires.
