Chris Pratt’s involvement with Hillsong Church drew public attention when he went on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert in February 2019 and spoke openly about his faith. While he never specifically mentioned Hillsong during this appearance, Chris was seen attending church services at Hillsong. After his appearance on Colbert, Elliot Page tweeted about it and asked, “Oh. K. Um. But his church is known to be anti-LGBTQ, so maybe address that too?”
Pratt responded by posting an Instagram story in which he said, “Nothing could be further from the truth.” He went on to do this thing, where he claims his beliefs are one thing, and the place who he goes to, who holds terrible beliefs, is not his, although he still participates in it. Brian Houston, the disgraced senior pastor and founder of Hillsong (who recently resigned), once said, “We are a gay-friendly church, but we are not a gay-lifestyle affirming church.” That doesn’t sound very inviting.
As far as Katherine goes, she and Chris have said they met at church, but it has never been confirmed if Hillsong was the church. We know that as late as June 2020, she was promoting her book, The Gift of Forgiveness: Inspirational Stories from Those Who Overcame the Unforgivable, on Hillsong’s YouTube channel.
