Many household names have reminisced about their childhood aspirations before rising to stardom in later life and have shared snaps of their younger selves.
As part of a new guide dog campaign, celebrities revealed their childhood dreams alongside the snaps and asked readers to name the face.
An Oscar winner admitted she hopes to be a nurse when she grows up, while a well-known English broadcaster admitted it’s all he ever wanted to be.
A lexicographer who’s been making headlines in recent days admitted she had two different dreams, neither of which were linked to landing a role on Countdown.
The campaign follows research showing that 75 percent of visually impaired adults are currently unemployed.
The Every Dream Counts initiative examines what visually impaired children aspire to in the hope that they can achieve their dreams.
The vision loss charity has released several photos of the celebrities as young children in hopes of raising awareness – so how many can you name?
Hidden identity: The Oscar winner told the charity: ‘I thought I was a nurse. When you are little, dreaming of what you will be when you grow up is an exciting rite of passage.
What’s the answer?: This broadcaster always knew what he wanted to be, saying, “From the age of 10, I wanted to be a broadcast journalist. This was sustained by watching the (Northern Ireland) troubles unfold around me and being covered on television. I always had this mission to explain in me.’
Who is it? This English lexicographer explained: “I had two very different ambitions – to become a poet, sitting in a remote part of the countryside and writing lyrics, and to become a hotel manager, as we always do when we’re lucky enough to stay in an Als I never wanted to leave my family!’
Secret Identity: This famous Michelin-starred chef said, “I wanted to be an astronaut or a bear wrestler!”
Mystery: This comedian had very eclectic aspirations, saying, ‘When I was very young I wanted to work the counter of a dry cleaner, then I wanted to be a secret agent, and when they didn’t want me I became a toss between becoming one chemist or working at Chester Zoo.’
Who could it be? Growing up, this nature-loving presenter dreamed of becoming a Thunderbirds pilot
Notes: The TV chef and presenter always knew what he wanted to be and reveals: “I toyed with the idea of going to the RAF when I was a boy, but my real passion has always been food. And that passion started on a family holiday in northern France.”
Hidden in plain sight, this award-winning actress wanted to be a prime minister, a brain surgeon, a famous explorer and a pirate. But then I discovered that as an actress it was pretty easy to be all of those things – and a queen, a wicked aunt, a tiger lily, a singing cow, a ghost and a rag doll. Hey diddly dee! An acting life for me!’
