Ouch! Quite a few celebrities have been accused of being the meanest in Hollywood. From talk show hosts like Ellen DeGeneres and James Corden to actors like Candace Cameron Bure, people in showbiz aren’t afraid to voice their opinions about who they least work with.
Fans of the former Ellen DeGeneres Show star were shocked when they saw a BuzzFeed report in mid-2020 that included former employees who claimed she had abused her employees over the years. The negative publicity didn’t stop there, however.
In September 2022, singer-songwriter Greyson Chance, whom Ellen featured on her show as a child, accused the Presidential Medal of Freedom recipient of abandoning him.
“I’ve never met anyone more manipulative, more self-centered and more blatantly opportunistic than her,” he told Rolling Stone that month. “In the first part of my career I owe a lot to her and this team. But the reason I’m here today, talking about an album, owes a hell of a lot to her. ‘Cause I was the one who had to pull myself up. She was nowhere to be found.”
In addition to Ellen, talk show host James Corden has also come under fire for allegedly beating an employee at New York’s Balthazar restaurant.
“James Corden is an extremely gifted comedian, but a tiny cretin of a man,” restauranteur Keith McNally claimed in an October 2022 Instagram post. “And the most abusive customer of my Balthazar servers since the restaurant opened 25 years ago.”
Although Keith confirmed a day later that the Late Late Show host called to apologize, James addressed the issue days later on his show.
“You see, if you make a mistake, you have to take responsibility,” the “Into the Woods” actor began. “In the heat of the moment, I made a sarcastic, rude comment about cooking [the dish] myself. It is a comment I deeply regret. I understand the difficulties of being a server. I worked shifts in restaurants for years. … I have such respect and appreciation for anyone who does a job like this. And the team at this restaurant is so great. That’s why I love it there.”
While Keith even praised James’ on-air apology, social media users questioned the authenticity of the late-night host’s statement. Even other celebrities like former Spice Girl Mel B accused him of being disrespectful towards his co-workers.
“I think you always have to be nice to the people you’re working with — whether it’s production, cinematography, sound, lighting,” she explained during a December 2022 appearance on The Big Narstie Show while discussing James. “We all work for the same cause, so you should always be nice, and he wasn’t very nice.”
James did not publicly respond to Mel B’s comments.
