Hyderabad police broke up a “rave party” at a Banjara Hills pub in the early hours of Sunday morning and arrested nearly 150 people, some of whom were found using drugs.
Among those arrested were actress and actor Naga Babu’s daughter Niharika Konidela, TDP MP Jayadev Galla’s son Galla Siddharth and Tollywood singer and Bigg Boss Telugu winner Rahul Sipligunj. However, according to a report by the New Indian Express, police allowed them to leave after collecting their details.
The report notes that five grams of cocaine was seized at the scene, while pot was also reportedly making the rounds of the party floor. The NDPS law notifies 2 grams as a “small quantity”.
Let’s take a look at the Hyderabad rave party case and other cases where celebrities have been implicated in drug arrests:
What happened at the rave party in Hyderabad
The Hyderabad Police Task Force raided a pub after receiving a tip about the increased number of cars arriving at the hotel after 1am each night.
The raid on the pub called Pudding & Mink was led by Task Force Officer on Special Duty P Radha Kishan Rao and Inspector (North Zone) K Nageswar Rao at around 2am.
According to a report by The Hindu, some youths threw away their packages upon seeing staff while others flushed them down the toilet.
“But five packets of cocaine (one gram per packet) and several empty packets were recovered from the pub reportedly owned by the daughter of a former MP from the former Khammam district,” a senior official told The Hindu.
Test reports confirmed that the powder seized from the pub was cocaine. City police collected clove powder, herbal powder and table salt, which are believed to be used to mask the cocaine supplied to consumers.
After months of exploring the pub, officials discovered that relatives of elite people from Telangana and Andhra Pradesh were visiting the place to party after midnight.
According to the New Indian Express report, pub management allowed entry only to elite and select customers.
In addition, an app was used in which a code is generated for each customer, which can only be entered after the code has been presented.
Other drug catches involving celebrities
In October last year, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) arrested three people, including actor Shah Rukh Khan’s son Aryan Khan, over a drug seizure on a cruise ship off the coast of Mumbai.

The Supreme Court had imposed 14 bail conditions on him and his co-defendants Arbaaz Merchant and Munmun Dhamecha, who were also granted bail.
For the past two years, since the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput, NCB has aggressively investigated the link between Bollywood and drugs and showcased the dark underbelly of tinsel town.

In 2014, actress Mamta Kulkarni and her husband Vicky Goswami were arrested for alleged drug trafficking in Kenya.
In June 2006, the late BJP leader Pramod Mahajan’s son, Rahul Mahajan, was arrested for drug abuse.
