What show should we binge watch next?

A new website, binge.place, has launched to help you answer the question: what show should we binge watch next.

Binge watching TV show has become perhaps THE hallmark of the current entertainment era. Especially with COVID lockdowns, must see TV has become must binge TV.

A recent survey says regular binge viewing includes 14% who “usually” binge all or most of the time, 18% who “frequently” binge more than half the time, and 25% who “sometimes” binge about half the time.

What is binge watching? Also called binge-viewing or marathon -viewing , is the practice of watching content (TV, streaming services, etc.) for a long time span, usually a single television show. In a survey conducted by Netflix, 73% of people define binge-watching as “watching between 2-6 episodes of the same TV show in one sitting.” Researchers have argued that binge-watching should be defined based on the context and the actual content of TV show.

Demographically, Millennials are the top cohort among bingers, with 53% saying that they are regular bingers. (mediapost.com)

What’s the time component of a binge watching show? Research suggest the perfect amount – it’s binge-able in like 4.5 hours, which is scientifically the perfect amount of binge-watching time (according to me, because you can finish a show AND still get some stuff done afterward).(stylebyemilyhenderson.com)

As more and more TV shows become available on DVD or through on-demand services, binge-watching the trend of watching multiple episodes or even seasons of television in one sitting has grown in popularity.

The idea of staring at a screen for hours on end might seem repulsive for some people, but Christopher John Farley, a senior editor at The Wall Street Journal and the author of “Game World,” actually finds a special joy in binge-watching. “It’s an immersive experience when you binge-watch,” said Farley. “There are details you catch that you wouldn’t catch if you’re watching it from week to week.
