Three administrative officials said the White House has given states sufficient flexibility and resources to expand benefits when they have high coronavirus case and unemployment rates. A White House official also said that some states use aid money to help workers, with California linking unemployed Americans to other benefit programs, Connecticut using aid for “reemployment bonuses,” and Maine helping them get reemployment services. Administrative officials also pointed to the 10 million current vacancies and an average of 800,000 jobs per month. That number will be lower, however, according to the August job report.
