According to the CDC, pregnant people are at increased risk of serious illness from COVID-19, as well as other complications such as premature birth. The organization recommends that pregnant people take the same preventive measures as non-pregnant people: practice social distancing, wash hands, and wear face masks. “Pregnancy leads to changes in respiratory physiology and lower thresholds for the necessary medical care,” said Dr. Amesh A. Adalja, senior scientist at the Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security, previously told Yahoo Life.
