Kaley Cuoco remembers late co-star John Ritter as “an incredible actor” who told many of his father’s jokes

If you ask Kaley Cuoco, the late John Ritter, who played her TV dad on 8 Simple Rules … for Dating My Teenage Daughter, earned an Oscar when it was his turn to appear in the 2003 movie Bad Santa.

“I don’t think anyone realized he was such an incredible actor,” Cuoco said on the Armchair Expert episode with Dax Shepard podcast on Monday. He was an incredible actor. “

Cuoco, who is promoting her upcoming HBO Max series The Flight Attendant, has paid tribute many times to the Three’s Company star. He died on September 11, 2003 after collapsing with Cuoco at the beginning of the show. The knight, only 54 years old, died of a tear in the main artery of his heart that had gone undetected.

The big bang theory alum recalled her first meeting with Ritter, where she played his daughter from 2002 until his death. He immediately slipped into daddy mode and Cuoco, who was a teenager himself, appreciated it.

“I was wearing – because I was playing a hot little 16 year old, right? So I was dressed very sexy and I thought I should, ”Cuoco said. “So John comes in and he sees me and I go, ‘Hi, I’m Kaley. I play your daughter. ‘And he takes off his jacket and pulls it over me and says,’ Don’t ever dress like that again. ‘“

While it sounds like this might be an awkward encounter, Cuoco said it was the opposite because Ritter was laughing the whole time.

“It was really joyful, like he had a huge smile. It wasn’t negative, ”explained Cuoco. “It was like ‘My daughter doesn’t dress like that’ is what it was … Isn’t that the cutest thing?”

Cuoco remembered Ritter making the same handful of jokes about Papa every day, but it always made her laugh. She described him as “the best of the best of the best of the best of the best in every way”.

The story goes on

Ritter joked one of his favorite jokes when the cast were all in one scene, which was a regular feature on the family sitcom.

“So we had these dinner scenes and would rehearse with fries. There were always chips, ”said Cuoco. “And he always showed up behind one of us. We wouldn’t even notice and he would come and he would put a chip on our shoulders and he would say, “Do you have a chip on your shoulder?” And then he would go away. Every day.”

Cuoco also had kind words for other co-stars. She called Katey Sagal, who played her mother on the show – later simply called 8 Simple Rules – as “cool as s ***”. She revealed that she and The Big Bang Theory co-star and ex-Johnny Galecki are “closer today than ever”.

Cuoco had nothing but good things to say about Alyssa Milano, who she worked with at Charmed. Cuoco appeared in 22 episodes of the series seven seasons later, so she was “scared” about walking on set for the first time.

“And I go in, I wave and Alyssa gets up, jumps over the couch, puts her arms around me and says, ‘Welcome to our show. I am so glad you are here. “Said Cuoco. “I know that sounds very small, but that changed everything for me. I’ll never forget that she did this because I was so scared and she didn’t have to. “
