The board of the Hawai’i High School Athletic Association unanimously approved an amended calendar on Friday that includes state tournaments in all sports.
In order to meet the Department of Education’s break for extracurricular activities through September 24, the HHSAA calendar provides three full seasons from that date. Until then, the leagues can determine what is allowed.
“It’s proof that our members can agree to a calendar at such short notice,” said Executive Director Chris Chun. “In addition, this calendar preserves league and state championships, which offers student athletes something that has been missing since February 2020. It shows the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Health and our state and district leaders that there will be a plan: “All schools can be resumed on September 24th.”
The HHSAA member leagues include the Big Island Interscholastic Federation (BIIF), the Interscholastic League of Honolulu (ILH), the Kauaʻi Interscholastic Federation (KIF), the Maui Interscholastic League (MIL), and the Oʻahu Interscholastic Association (OIA).
