Searches for “AI jobs” are four times higher than “crypto jobs” in 2023 when BTC hit $69,000

According to a new analysis by cryptocurrency data aggregator CoinGecko, artificial intelligence (AI) has become the clear winner in the battle to attract job seekers.

From 2020 to 2022, searches for “AI jobs” and “crypto jobs” stayed fairly close together, with AI topping most days and crypto taking the lead after Bitcoin (BTC) hit an all-time high of in November 2021 Reached $69,000.

Coupled with increasing adoption and interest in both Web3 and cryptocurrency technologies, the crypto boom brought a record number of job seekers in 2022 — at least when that interest is measured by Google search.

However, after ChatGPT launched in November 2022, searches for “AI jobs” skyrocketed.

According to the CoinGecko study, searches for “AI jobs” in 2023 reached almost five times what searches for “crypto jobs” did at their peak and remained four times higher through July 5.

The report shows that ahead of BTC’s all-time high of $69,000, searches for “AI jobs” outperformed similar crypto-related searches by a 3-to-1 margin. However, when BTC hit $69,000, “crypto jobs” searches outperformed AI twice:

“At its peak of 26 on January 9-30, 2022, search interest in ‘crypto jobs’ surpassed that of ‘AI jobs’ and was also five times higher than its baseline in January 2020.”

CoinGecko’s methodology uses a ranking system to determine “search interest”. It takes into account Google search data from all over the world. However, the researchers note that Google is not the primary search engine in every geographic area, so the results may not necessarily reflect the ground truth of interest.

Notably, analysts’ other findings also note that Singapore has the highest search interest score of any nation for both the keywords “AI jobs” and “crypto jobs.”
