The XRP Ledger (XRPL) is set for a significant evolution as the XLS-30 AMM change is now up for voting on mainnet. Ripple CTO Schwartz expressed his excitement for the feature, retweeting RippleX’s announcement and commenting: “One of my favorite XRPL features ever, which I explained in my keynote at the Apex Development Summit, is now available for voting on mainnet become.”
Changes to the Consent received. For a change to be permanently integrated, it must receive over 80% of community support for a continuous two-week period.
What Ripple CTO Schwartz’s favorite update offers
The XLS-30 AMM change described by RippleX is a new feature for the XRP ledger. The launch aims to provide native Automated Market Maker (AMM) functionality that enables trading of assets within automated liquidity pools. According to the development department at Ripple Labs, this change is distinguished by its novel continuous auction mechanism, designed to encourage arbitrageurs to bid on mispricing opportunities.
This mechanism promises to significantly mitigate the impact of temporary losses for liquidity providers (LPs). RippleX highlighted the transformative potential of this feature, stating: “All of these unique features, combined with the low fees and fast finality of XRPL, bring XLS-30 to the forefront of decentralized finance applications.”
A deeper dive into the GitHub description for “0030 XLS 30d: Automated Market Maker on XRPL” provides further details on the proposal’s features and goals. In the past, the XRPL decentralized exchange (DeX) relied on manual market making and order books for liquidity.
The XLS-30 seeks to revolutionize this by introducing non-custodial AMM as an inherent feature. This mechanism is intended to increase returns for liquidity providers while minimizing potential losses due to market volatility.
A unique aspect of this AMM instance is the continuous auctioning of trading advantages to arbitrageurs. Fees collected from these auctions are then redistributed to liquidity providers to ensure a fairer distribution of profits.
Proposed last year, the protocol-native AMM is intended to seamlessly integrate with the order book-based DEX on the XRP Ledger. Since its Devnet debut in November 2022, there has been a lot of activity: hundreds of AMM pools have been set up and a large number of wallets have been connected for testing.
RippleX has also been proactive and integrated AMM support into three client libraries, namely xrpl.js, xrpl-py and xrpl4j, and integrated them into the xrpl.org explorer.
At press time, XRP was trading at $0.5044.
