The upgrade aims to change the way the blockchain writes and deletes data about transactions between accounts. Instead of writing to storage and deleting it before the transaction is complete, smart contracts can now leverage “transient storage,” an entirely new data mechanism. The activation is done by adding some new opcodes.
Transient storage is a cheaper and more efficient data management tool. It also enables some new use cases for Ethereum ETHUSD and EVM ecosystem dApps.
For example, in Uniswap v4, all liquidity pools are held in a smart contract. This makes liquidity logistics between different pools faster and cheaper.
Instead of transferring assets between pools, the system only changes net balances through cross-asset swaps.
EIP-1153 will be enabled after Cancun upgrade
As previously reported by U.Today, “transient storage opcodes” are among the most anticipated additions to Ethereum ETHUSD network design.
The Ethereum Cancun upgrade offers major improvements over Ethereum ETHUSD The design is expected to be activated in the fourth quarter of 2023. Along with EIP-1153, it will include a new “pay” opcode, enhanced memory efficiency, recamp call instructions, etc.
