Coinweb brings cross-chain tokenization to Layer 2

With Layer 2 scaling solutions like Arbitrum and Optimism taking center stage in the narrative for blockchain development, the space is certainly where we can find the latest innovations and most exciting advances at the cutting edge of distributed ledger technology. As this is widely seen as the most likely area that will see blockchain gaining wider adoption over traditional Layer 1 solutions, there is tremendous value in understanding consumer needs from a customer-centric perspective.

Enter Coinweb, a Layer 2 cross-chain computation platform that offers not only scalability but also multiple blockchain interoperability — all while preserving the security level of the underlying Layer 1 blockchain ledger. Coinweb is pursuing a similar one Approach to the optimistic roll-up technology that the leading solutions are currently using and takes it a step further with its unique architectural innovations, expertly designed product and purpose-built user-friendly features built on top of the protocol. With a rollout schedule to release components of this exciting platform starting in November 2022, Coinweb’s full suite of products aims to break down the barriers that exist between blockchains and ultimately open up new potential use cases, aiming to empower traditional businesses and theirs integrate non-crypto-native customer bases.

One of these component products is LinkMint, the world’s first easy-to-use cross-chain tokenization platform. The LinkMint platform has recently been demonstrated at workshops, collaborative events, and industry conventions aimed at driving adoption of technologies and enhancing interactions with consumers that expand the space and value of blockchain capabilities. This includes how to create and issue custom tokens on Layer 2 infrastructure and anchor the tokens on a set of Layer 1 blockchains. As CEO Toby Gilbert explains,

“We have been working to provide solutions to blockchain’s biggest problems for several years, and it has always been related to scalability, interoperability and ease of use. If mass adoption of blockchain technology is to be possible, we must be able to offer accessible and tangible value over current centralized apps and technologies. This includes being a practically viable option for a variety of use cases, and that is exactly what LinkMint offers with its cross-chain token creation interface.”

Uses for cross-chain tokens have already been explored and implemented for loyalty points, cross-organization data tracking, and real estate fractionation. Coinweb designs these systems for each specific use case and also plays an active role in developing and collaborating on branded implementations with their client partnerships. Coinweb also invests in promising emerging projects through its ecosystem fund Coinweb Labs. The creation of the ecosystem fund is a natural and necessary component in advanced technology fields such as blockchain to provide opportunities and investments for the independent development of innovative products and yet unseen implementations of new use cases.

The seven built-in Layer 1 blockchains include Bitcoin, Ethereum, Bitcoin Cash, Litecoin, Elrond, Binance Chain, and Polygon, with plans to connect more chains at a steady pace. Users of the platform can write their token contracts on one or more of these blockchains, including parameters such as mintability, combustibility and accessibility (whitelisting) – they can even be designed to integrate token bonding curves. Coinweb’s Layer 2 protocol allows dApps to switch underlying chains at will – avoiding the platform risk that comes with being tied to a single blockchain and future-proofing the project for any new or better blockchains will, which have not yet been developed.

The Coinweb architecture was designed to support the Web Assembly (WASM) runtime environment – making it highly compatible with the widest range of programming languages and unifying the developer space by allowing programmers across the industry and more to collaborate on the same platform. The practical implications of this could not be underestimated; Developers working on specific blockchains can seamlessly migrate their project to another blockchain in the event of a technical failure or economic collapse – project managers can also dissociate their on-chain book value to another native token or cryptocurrency, reducing systemic and market risk , which is inherent in the volatility of fluctuating coin prices. To point out two obvious examples where this would have made a significant difference, the projects developed on Terra and most recently Solana after the spectacular implosion of FTX could have simply migrated across Layer 2 and prospered in a fully interoperable ecosystem.

The planned introduction of cross-chain liquidity pools, when applied with this layer of interoperable technology, will create breakthrough innovations and use cases – all of which will become possible after the Coinweb mainnet goes live. For example, imagine a company that could provide risk management services for blockchain project development by securing on-chain assets across multiple blockchain denominations. Innovations like these are new horizons for everyone in the cryptocurrency industry to look forward to, and provide considerable light ahead of the seemingly dark tunnel that surrounds us today.

The realization of such innovations will undoubtedly become significant milestones for the Coinweb team to look forward to. In fact, it would seek to impact the blockchain industry as a whole, which has been hampered by limited interoperability between blockchain silos and their diverse communities. Even with new and exciting interoperability protocols attempting to address these vulnerabilities today, Coinweb’s technology and Layer 2 execution protocol appears to be the first of its kind to simultaneously address the scalability bottleneck in a secure and user-friendly environment that is possible specifically designed for businesses to brand with their own custom wallet development. It allows everyday users to take advantage of the benefits and features that blockchain offers over traditional solutions, while allowing the company using the technology to focus on building their customer relationships, delivering their core value propositions, and driving unique customer experiences.

Coinweb’s full suite of upcoming products includes not only LinkMint, but also a multi-tenancy wallet, a Coinweb-native decentralized exchange (DeconX), native bridges with gas fee abstraction, and fiat ingress and egress gateways running in over 200 fully compliant countries worldwide. These developments and the best in user interface and experience design come together under one roof and promise to be a game changer for the industry and for new use cases in many industries – and at scale.
